AGM 2012 & Journal

The committee of management met on 8th May confirmed the date of the AGM as 22nd July.

News -CT programme

The scheduled lectures completed with The CT Angio and CT of Neck and spine lecture on 13th may 2012. Following Consultant Radiologists contributed to the programme.

A special feature was the lecture delivered by Mr Sunil Balasooriya, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, now work in UK, on SPECT/CT and CT anatomy of Abdomen. He also donated the due lecture fee back to the society.

Dr. Sunil Kulatunga (Head, Department of Nuclear physics, UNiversity of Colombo) covered the theory part of the subject.
Dr. Ajith Malalasekera, from the department of anatomy, faculty of Medicine conducted the cross sectional anatomy lectures.

The Development of Mammography Service in Central Province of Sri Lanka.

ABSTRACT

Breast carcinoma is a leading cause of death in women in all over the world.Mammography is the primary effective detection technique to reduce breast cancer mortality.The objectives of the study were to describe how the mammography service was established and evolved in Central province,the quality of the service and the experiences of the mammographers who were providing the service.Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study using a self administered structured questionnaire.The results were comparatively discussed with the existing literature& Mammography Quality Standard Act. Results andConclusion: The mammography service in Central province is still in primitive stage. Poor developments can see in the fields of technology, education of the mammographers and screening programs. More Click here

It is excellent to note that the ISRRT has been listed, alongside important international organisations, as one of those who have taken part in the production of the “Joint Position Statement on the IAEA Patient Radiation Exposure Tracking”.

The ISRRT have continued to work on an international level with the IAEA and thanks to the work done by the Board and the Regional Officers this work is recognised and appreciated by the IAEA.

History

The society has been founded on 28th June 1975 and is affiliated to the International Society of Radiographers & Radiological technologists (ISRRT)

Objectives

1.To serve the sick and the suffering professionally with a humanitarian outlook.
2.    To improve the standards of the profession technically, academically and ethically.
3.   To promote the study of radiography and allied subjects through practice and research.
4.    To organize seminars, lectures, demonstrations and publications etc. on radiography and allied subjects.
5.    To attend to the professional needs of the membership.
6.    To promote good relationships with the Medical and other allied professions,
7.   To associate with other national or international organizations in   radiography and allied fields in the furtherance of the above objects.
